Weather index insurance
Covers against crop yield loss experienced by the farmer due to drought or excessive rainfall (adverse climatic changes). Several crops are covered through the Uganda Agriculture insurance scheme (UAIS). These include bananas, coffee, maize, beans, cassava, millet, rice, cotton, oil seeds, fruit trees, tea, and horticulture crops. Farmers of these crops can benefit from the 30% and 50% premium subsidy for large-scale and small-scale farmers respectively or 80% subsidy for farmers in high-risk areas
An index is selected to represent the crop yield loss likely to be experienced by the farmer due to climatic weather changes.
Payments to farmers of a given crop in each district are automatically triggered when the index indicates a yield drop of 10% of the expected average yield of that crop for the district at the end of the season.
Claims are automatically paid out at the end of the crop season to the extent of the loss experienced.

offers hospital cash benefit to SACCO members. The benefit is payable each time a member of such group is hospitalized in a registered and licensed hospital for at least two (2) days up to a maximum of thirty (30) days per Policy Year.
